dog health symptomsAs a Dog Owner, if you are able to recognize the early signs of pain, or symptoms of illness, you might be able to relieve your loved ones suffering but might be able to save a lot of expensive trips to the animial doctor, Prevention is better than the cure as they say. You should always Keep a record of your dog’s symptoms to help the vet if you end up taking a trip when needed, it’ll save a lot of time, and might just save your dog’s life.

Temperature, Respiratory and Heart Rate

Serious dog health symptomsA puppy will have a temperature of 94-97Fahrenheit (34-35Celsius). By the time they reach adulthood their body temperature will be around 101.5Fahrenheit (38.5Celsius). Just be careful with Puppies, they can get easily excited, which can increase their body temperature on it’s own, also the thermometer can get stuck in their rectums due to the excitement (be careful!). If your pet’s temperature is more then 5-10 Fahrenheit (1Celsuis) higher it might be a symptom that something is wrong.
The Average Adult Dog will have a Respiratory Rate of around 15-20 Breaths per minute, if the dog is excited, it will be higher. The heart rate of a dog generally sits in-between 80-120 beats per minute depending on the breed of your dog, you will need to check for your dog’s breed to see what is normal for it. To measure the dogs heart beat, you can feel for it on the lower leg just behind the elbow. A lot of dogs have Irregular heartbeats; you need to test your dog, to get use to his.

Behavior Changes

pitbull health symptomsAny Changes to the Behavior in your dog, that can’t be associated with changed in your environment (ie happy with a lot of people around, Jealousy from a new pet of child), Might be an indication of an issue, another symptom you should take note of. Some major things to look for are Depression, Anxiety, Sleepiness, and Trembling, falling and stumbling. These should be like big red alarm bells for you. If your dog shows any of these, you need to keep an extremely close eye on them, like you would of a human; it could mean that something serious is wrong. If they appear they are getting worse, get them to the vets as fast as possible.

Other Signs and symptoms of a sick pet

dog health symptoms and issuesThere are a lot of symptoms that we could list here, pages and pages and pages (well you have to goto university to become a pet, so you know there’s a lot!). The best thing you can do, is learn how your dog acts, and what he sounds and feels like, if something changes, like a wound, bleeding, can’t lift a leg, something that you wouldn’t associate with normal behavior, you should take note. If it was a human, would you sit there and see if it gets better (ie a cut), or take them to a doctor (ie broken leg). Common sence is the best thing you can use to help your dog.
